My current work flow: VPI record cleaner>AT155LC Cartridge>Denon DP-45f turntable>Adcom GTP-500 preamp>Asus Xonar Essence STX sound card>VinylStudio 48 kHz,24 bit. It has been a little over a year and my girlfriend has some issues with the sheer volume of records. I am still a towering pinochle of ignorance regarding this stuff and am learning with every rip. ![]() I did more than 100 albums with the Art unit and will have to revisit many of them. At 24 bit and above I do not have to screw around with anything, It saves a significant amount of time. But that gizmo only does 16 bit and every album is a bit different and wee adjustments seem to make a huge difference between best dynamic range and excessive clipping. I started out with the ART gizmo and liked the gain knob. The next thing that cost money, but made stuff easier and faster was being able to record above 16 bit. I tried a bunch of different liquids for it and I am liking the VPI the best for now. There is no question in my mind that the most expensive single investment (and the biggest bang for the buck) I have made was a VPI record cleaning machine. Building storage boxes and organizing them has taken a bit of time and space and actually has had some cost. some significant record collections from attics and basements ended up in my lap. I am an old fart and when I told my friends I was learning about ripping vinyl. ![]() Playing back from digital is very useful to me because I operate a woodshop and the environment would be incompatible with a turntable. It is a bit overwhelming…but listening to music has become important to me. I have now about 300 needle drop recordings and a considerable amount of vinyl to continue with.
